Welcome to my home page!!   I am Mrs. Bouda, one of three fifth grade teachers here at Briarlake.  I teach Math to all of the 5th graders and Language Arts to my homeroom.  I look forward to a great year! HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS If you are ever unsure of homework, check the student's planner first! Math:  The students will normally have a page of review homework each night. Reading: We will either be reading a story from the textbook each week or we will be diving into some wonderful novels! Spelling: Each week the students have three spelling practice sheets that are due on Friday.  Every Friday they take their final test. Grammar:  Each week we study a new grammar topic.  The students have review sheets that we work on together in class.  Every Friday their grammar test is a part of the reading test. Writing:  We are continuously working on the different types of writing to prepare for the writing test!  Ask you child what type of writing we are working on now!

Field Trips

We will take two field trips this year. One in the fall and one in the spring. Information will be sent home soon about it.

Class Room Rules and Expectations

Please review the classroom rules and expectations that were sent home the first day of school. The students also have it posted on the inside cover of their planners. In 5th grade we use a point system. This has helped to get them prepared for middle school.

Math Information

We are using three resources for math this year. These include Math Georgia, Math Expressions, and the State Frameworks. The students are expected to use their math journals daily to take notes and copy down examples that are done in class.
