Mr. Taylor's 5th Grade
Briarlake
Fifth Grade

Welcome to 5th Grade!

My name is Mr. Taylor. I am one of three fifth grade teachers here at Briarlake Elementary.  I teach Science to all of the 5th graders and Language Arts to my homeroom.  I look forward to a great year and helping to prepare our students to face the challenges and responsibilities of middle school!

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS

If you are ever unsure of homework, check the student's planner first!  Students are required to fill in their homework daily in their agenda planners.

SPELLING
Each week we will have a spelling pretest on Monday.  The students are given the pretest back so they know exactly what words they need to work on.  They will also have pages due each Friday from their spelling workbook.  Every Friday they take their final test.  Each week there are also five challenge words for students to choose to define and spell correctly for extra credit!

GRAMMAR
Each week we study a new grammar topic.  The students have review sheets that we work on together in class.  Every Friday they take a grammar quiz in GCRCT format on the skills covered throughout that week.

WRITING
We are continuously working on the different types of writing to prepare for the 5th grade writing assessment !  Ask your child what type of writing we are working on now!

SCIENCE
We will be touching on Life, Physical and Earth Science this year.  Students can expect a lab / activity approximately once per week.  We will be exploring concepts through hands-on activities whenever possible.  Lab safety and the use of the scientific method will be continuously stressed throughout the year.
