Welcome to Music!
In my class your child will have the opportunity to explore music through the use of instruments and voice. It is my goal that your students develop an appreciation for a wide variety of music and a lifetime love of listening, singing, playing and creating music.
My Philosophy
I believe that every person has the potential to create music. It is my personal mission to help students to develop that potential so they can express themselves musically and better understand and appreciate the music from diverse cultures. To achieve that goal, I follow...
The National Standards for Music Education
1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.
Grading Policy 2011-2012...
To help reach the goals stated above, grades will be determined by the completion of classroom assignments and participation in school musical events. In the event that a student is unable to attend a performance, alternate assignments will be offered.
Because of the nature of music class, most assignments will not be written. Performance standards that require singing or playing will be graded on development of the skills addressed. Students that meet class expectations and attend required performances will receive an S. Students consistently showing extra initiative and participating above the general expectations may receive an E. It is my sincere goal that every student participate and reach satisfactory acheivement.
This policy may be ammended or altered as needed to best help students suceed.
