This course is designed to teach the study of living things including the cell, the six kingdoms, and how living things interact with their environmnet. This year we will also look at basic genetic principles and the systems of the human body. In addition we will work on the scientific inquiry process, research skills, and using the standard international (SI) measurement system.
Students will be held accountable for meeting the following perfomance standards:
1. Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.
2. Students will recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations.
3. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments.
4. Students will investigate the diversity of living organisms and how they can be compared scientifically.
5. Students will examine the evolution of living organisms through inherited characteristics that promote survival of organisms and the survivial of successive generations of their offspring.
