04/21/2009 - Members of the US Army Wrestling Team visited Druid Hills this afternoon. They led a excellent seminar that was open to all students. Many students new to wrestling watched or participated.  Many thanks to our friends in the US Army for arranging this visit.

03/19/2009 - The wrestling team had their banquet tonight. Excellent food was provided by Evans Fine Foods. Seniors Chris, Ben, Cesar, Amber, DeeDee and Imari were honored with a senior award that listed their accomplishments.  Varsity wrestling awards were: Yonas Most Improved, Johannes Most Valuable, and Joe Best First Year Wrestler.  JV wrestling awards were: Jonah Most Heart and Brian Most Improved. 

02/22/2009 - As a team Druid Hills ranked 32 out of 57 teams at the AAA State Championships. This is an improvement over the 2007-2008 ranking of 59th out of 75 schools. Johannes W. placed sixth in the state championship and Cesar's win helped contribute to the team score. The link to the brackets is fixed, where you can see our team's progress. 02/15/2009 - Four of our six sectional (first round of state) qualifiers will go on to the last round of the State Championships by virtue of placing eighth or higher at the AAA West Sectional this weekend. Ben was not able to compete due to injury. Joe placed 10th place (qualifying as an alternate), Yonas placed 8th, Chris placed 7th, and Cesar and Johannes placed second. Here are the State Championships schedule and AAA brackets. Druid Hills placed the most Dekalb wrestlers in the final round of the AAA State Championships. Other Dekalb schools sending wrestlers to AAA State are: Towers 3, McNair 3, Dunwoody 2, Clarkston 1, and Columbia 1. There were 33 schools represented at the West Sectionals.

02/07/2009 - Druid Hills placed 6th at the 5AAA Area Traditional Tournament and will be sending six wrestlers to the first round of the State Championships (sectionals). Individual placers who will be representing Druid Hills at the sectionals are Yonas W. and Ben E. (fourth place each), Chris P. (third place), Joseph R. (second place), and Cesar S. and Johannes W. (area champions). Congratulations to Jonah E. and Ahmad N. who won 6th and 5th place respectively.

01/30/2009 - First year wrestler Joseph R. won second place at the Dekalb County JV Tournament. Other wrestlers winning matches were Jacob K. who won two matches (by pin), Matthew Lenkerd who won two matches (by pin) and Alex L. who won one match by pin. Special congratulations to Brian H, Jonah E. and Aurthor J., who, even though they did not win, wrestled well for both days of the tournament.

01/27/2009 - In tonight's match with Columbia HS, a team in our area, 3 out of 4 matches wrestled went to Druid Hills. Alex F., Johannes W. and Joseph R. won their matches. In the match with Martin Luther King Jr. HS, only Joseph R. won. Both dual meets had very few matches due to all 3 teams missing wrestlers for various reasons. The Druid Hills team is now getting ready for the Dekalb County JV tournament and the Varsity tournament at Pickens High School.

01/22/2009 - Senior wrestlers Ben E, Chris P, Christian P and Cesar S, along with senior managers DeeDee G., Imari T. and Amber W. were honored at senior night. Special thanks to the marching band and cheerleaders who helped make the ceremony a success. Druid Hills varsity defeated Lithonia 39 to 31. Druid Hills junior varsity lost to Lithonia 18 to 30. In the final match Druid Hills varsity defeated Cross Keys 48 to 18. Senior wrestler Ben E. won both of his matches by pin. Yonas W., Austin G., Christian P., Alex F., Joe R. and Nick G., each won a varsity match by pin. JV wrestlers Author J., and Alex L. won their match by pin. Announcing Shamrock Middle School Night and Senior Night at Druid Hills, Wednesday January 21, at 5:00pm. The first 20 Shamrock students* receive a coupon for a FREE Chick-fil-A sandwich, courtesy of Chick-fil-A at Lawrenceville Hwy and N. Druid Hills Rd. (*with current id card or proof of attendance). Druid Hills will be hosting the Cross Keys HS and Lithonia HS wrestling teams. Concession stand will be open serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches. Free admission. 

01/13/2009 Druid Hills meet with Towers, Redan and Dunwoody High Schools at Dunwoody. Dunwoody ran a nice round robin for JV wrestlers while the varsity teams wrestled on their other two mats. Yonas won one match, Alex won two matches, one by pin and one by major decision, Johannes won two matches, one by tech fall and one by pin, and Joseph and Austin each won one a match by pin.

01/11/2009 - Druid Hills placed 5^th in the 5AAA Area Duals Tournament held at Riverwood High School on January 10^th 2009.  Druid Hills lost to the second place winner St. Pius 33 to 40, defeated North Atlanta 41 to 28, lost to Towers 26 to 42, and defeated Clarkston 48 to 25.  Yonas, Christian and Johannes won all their matches and thereby contributed 24 team points each over the course of the tournament.  Austin, Cesar, Chris and Joseph won 3 of their matches. Ahmed and Matthew L. won 2 matches each. As a team Druid Hills won 12 matches by pins, won one match by technical fall, won 7 matches by decisions, one match by default, and won 9 matches by forfeit.

01/03/2008 - Druid Hills placed 7^th out of 22 teams at the 2009 Dekalb County Varsity Tournament.  Ben E. placed 6^th after not being able to continue due to injury. Yonas W. and Chris P. placed 5^th, Alex F. placed 4^th and Johannes W. placed 2^nd.  Matthew L. won one match, Ahmed N. and Cesor S. won two matches, and Christian P. won 3 matches. This is the second year in a row the team has improved its county ranking. Click here for more pictures.

12/31/2008 - Line up for the Dekalb County Varsity Tournament (January 2 & 3 at Stone Mountain High School) is: 103 Yonas W., 112 Matthew L., 119 Jonah E., 125 Ahmad N., 130 Ben E., 135 open, 140 Cesor S., 145 Christian P., 152 Chris P., 160 Alex F., 171 Alonzo C., 189 Johannes W., 215 Joseph R., 285 open. Six out of  twelve wrestlers were seeded.

12/21/2008 - At the Brookwood Christmas Tournament Johannes W. won third place and Alex F. won two matches before falling to injury. Yonas W. and Ben  E. each won one match.

At the Blessed Trinity JV Tournament Jacob K. won fourth place, Jose S. won one match and Brian H., who wrestled up to 215, also won one match.

12/16/2008 - Please welcome Coach Lopez to the wrestling team. He is replacing Coach Franklin who stepped down for other obligations. A special thanks to Coach Franklin for his many hours with the team both during the season and in preseason conditioning.

Recently the team went to the Alpharetta Raider Rumble. Hans placed second in the 189 weight class with five wins. Yonas had three wins, one of which was a 17 second pin. Our first year wrestlers Joseph and Nick had two wins and one win respectively. Even though five varsity wrestlers could not attend, we were able to out score our friendly rivals of Dunwoody, Lakeside and Lithonia.

12/7/2008 - This weekend nine of our varsity wrestlers went to the Panther Invitational. The competition was tough and the tournament well run. As a team we had 14 wins, 9 by pins. Ben and Hans each tied for fifth place. Yonas won two matches with 16 second pins each. Alonzo won a match with a 45 second pin and Austin had two first round pins.  Both Ben and Cesor won a math with a pin. Alex added another win to his record.

Our JV went to the South Side Slam at Eagles Landing. More stats to report when they become available.

12/2/2008 - Druid Hills started off the first match of the night wrestling the hosting school South Gwinnett High, a 5A school with a large wrestling program. Highlights from the match include pins by Yonas, Austin, Christian, Alex F., Hans, and Joseph along with a technical fall by Cesor. The score was tied 41 to 41 after DHHS had to forfeit the 145 and 285 classes. The match went to the 6th tie-breaking criteria which was first points scored in the individual matches which DHHS had 8 and S. Gwinnett had 4 and thus DHHS won its first match of the night.

Following that match Druid Hills performed strongly against opponent Cross Keys resulting in a 77-0 score. Highlights from this match include pins by Ben, Christian and Joe. Hans defeated his opponent by a technical fall.

Following their second victory of the night Druid Hills wrestled a match against an opponent they had seen earlier this season, Cedar Grove. The result was similar to their last competition with Druid Hills winning with a score of 60-15. Cedar Grove is in our area and we will see their competitive wrestlers again.

11/28/2008 - Push-up-athon results. The team did a total of 5554 push-ups in 12 minutes. That's an average of 277 per wrestler. Wrestlers need to bring in pledges by December 11th.

11/27/2008 - Our JV team went to the Holy Innocents JV tournament on November 25th.  Unfortunately, our wrestlers did not get their five matches as expected.  Julian T., in his first ever appearance on the mat, won in a 24 second pin.  Joseph R. won both of his matches, and both Jose S. and Jacob K. won a match.

Our varsity team went to the well run Hiram Thanksgiving Duals tournament on November 26th.  Druid Hills wrestlers Christian P., Alex F., and Johannes W. each won three out of four matches.  All of Alex and Johannes' wins were by pins and Christian had one pin.  Austin G. and Yonas W. each won two matches, and all of Austin's wins were by pins.  As a team, with several wrestlers missing, DHHS defeated Apalachee High School 42 to 36.

11/22/2008 - Druid Hills Wrestling started off the season on November 21 with an astonishing 60-17 victory over Cedar Grove High at the dual meet hosted by Lithonia High School.  This match was followed by a very even match against Martin Luther King High School.  Druid Hills performed amazingly to narrowly defeat MLK with a score of 42 to 40.  Highlights from this match include first period pins by Yonas W., Alex F., and Hans W.  Also Cesar S., Ben E. and Joe R. pinned their opponents.  The third match proved more challenging for Druid Hills as they faced off against Chamblee High.  The match, highlighted by pins from Matthew L., Ben E. Cesar S., Christian P, and Alex F. resulted in a score of 42-42 and went to a triple tiebreaker scoring scenario in which Druid Hills narrowly lost.  This sets Druid Hills season off to a strong start with a 2-1 dual meet record.

11/14/2008 - Support our team - we are having a Push-up-athon (Pledge form) on Nov 24^th in order to purchase additional uniforms.

The 2007-2008 Druid Hills Wrestling Team had a good season under first year Coaches Franklin and West. The wrestling team placed 10th out of 22 teams at the Dekalb County Varsity Tournament while winning two individual third places and one fourth place. At the Area 5 AAA Traditional Tournament two wrestlers won second place, two won fifth and one won sixth place. Two wrestlers went on to represent Druid Hills High School at the Georgia High School Association State Traditional Championships.

The 2008-2009 Druid Hills wrestling season promises more success with the addition of Coaches Miller and Martin. The core of the Druid Hills wrestling team remains young with the addition of several promising new wrestlers. All area placers will be returning. The schedule for this season has many competitive tournaments for both varsity and junior varsity.

Shamrock Middle School 8^th graders are invited to join the team. There is bus service after school from Shamrock to Druid Hills (take the same bus band members take, bus 1188, as of September 20 2008).
