ART CLUB MEMBERS should deliver permission form to Mrs. Cox's door pocket on before announcements in the morning of the day you plan to stay for art club.  If you haven't signed up for art club membership, you can still join, but please turn in the membership form at least a few days ahead of time.
*pretty please, no emails or faxes on Thursday--
(Mrs. Cox usually does not have time to check emails on
Thursday prior to art club time and front office already has plenty of details to handle! )
Permission form available on school website...or here:
Students should BRING SKETCHBOOKS and patience to each art club.  We hope for pleasant weather for our next club so that we can continue to work on our big projects outdoors.  We will divide the large club into smaller groups for activities.  Parents who would like to lead an activity should email Mrs. Cox so that plans can be made before the club meeting.   Parent helpers are vital to the success of our GIANT ART CLUB.

SKETCHBOOKS
are an integral component of our Kittredge ART program.
Each student should bring the sketchbook to every art class.

Here's how we got started during the first week of school--
SKETCHBOOK ENTRIES:

*  R O A R.      Review the KMS "acronym for success" --  We don't just talk about it here, we put it into our lives and use the elements of art to develop a creative display of the four letters on the inside back cover of the sketchbook.  Let’s have a ROAR-ART show!

* DESIGN  a TITLE PAGE that reflects YOUR  individuality.
On the first page of the sketchbook --develop a TITLE PAGE.
The design should reflect student preferences, interests and ideas. This is a great place for students to incorporate the elements of art into their work. Strong contrasts, designer letters, and good use of space can make these designs exciting.

The title page should be on the first sheet at the beginning of the sketchbook.  It may also spread to the inside front cover.  Student artists should FILL the page (or double page)  and make it outstanding.   It may be an original title that is appropriate for the contents. The title may include the student's name.

elements of art--
In your sketchbook, on a double page spread:  divide each page into 4 nearly equal sections (two pages x 4 sections each  = 8  sections) .  Assign one section as the title:  Elements of Art (or Elements of Design)...Assign each of the seven other sections to an element of art.  DESIGN the name of each element to reflect its meaning.  Fill the remaining space of each section with samples of that element.   Make it look good!!!

                 space....line.... shape.... form....value....color....texture

PORTFOLIO
Each student will have a portfolio in which to keep artwork.  A review of the portfolio can be used to assess accomplishments over a period of time.  It is fun to see how your individuality shows up in your art!   Students who are new to KMS will develop a portfolio cover in the next few weeks.

Thank you, KMS PTA, for the awesome Promethean Active Board!  It is our window to the world--a portal to the vast world of visual information.  At last the art room has a virtual window!
