Welcome to my web page! I am very excited about being your child's teacher this year. The third grade teachers have lots of exciting activities planned for this year. This web page is intended to provide you with helpful information regarding our class and instructional activities throughout the year.
If you would like to make a conference with me, I am delighted to meet with you. I am available by appointment on Monday orTuesday afternoons between 3:00 and 3:30, or any morning between 7:30 and 7:45. I am also accessible via email at Laura_N_Pittman@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us. Please note that we have 4 extended day conference sessions each year on which you may schedule a conference between 3:30 and 5:30. These dates are September 13, November 15, January 17, and March 15.
HOMEWORK
We usually have homework every evening except Friday. We do not have homework during standardized testing or on an evening which is a PTA family night. Each child will have spelling words to study, as well as an activity sheet. Monthly reading logs will also be required beginning in August.
Each child does not have the same activity sheet or the same spelling words. I assign activity sheets based on a skill which I think would best benefit your child. The children's spelling words are based upon words which they missed on their pretest, or challenge words which they have chosen to study. Please consult your child's planner for his or her specific assignments.

SNACK AND WATER
Each child may bring a small snack each day. Each child brings his or her own snack. I am asking that the children not bring messy snacks. Appropriate snacks include whole wheat crackers, carrot sticks, dry cereal, or pretzels. Please do not bring grapes, raisins, cheese, gummies, or anything that requires a spoon. Children will not be allowed to eat messy snacks in the classroom.
I have a box of plain Cheerios for any child who forgets his or her snack. Children may receive Cheerios 3 times from me during the school year.
The children may also keep a small bottle of water on their desks. Please put your child's name on his or her bottle. Please do not send in any drink other than water. No juice, flavored, or carbonated water, please. Children who misbehave with their bottles will be asked to leave the bottles at home.
