Mr. Coln is a graduate of the Atlanta Public School System,having graduated from West Fulton High School with the class of 1971.As a member of the West Fulton High School Music Program, Mr. Coln served as Flute section leader, student conductor, and drum major.After graduation Mr. Coln went on to attend Morris Brown College in Atlanta Georgia.
Mr Coln received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Music in Education from Morris Brown College. While attending Morris Brown College he studied under the leadership of the world renound Mr. Cleopas R. Johnson, Mr. Henry Gilliam, and William Revere. As a member of the Morris Brown College music program, Mr. Coln served as section leader for the marching, concert, and jazz bands.
Mr. Coln served as Director of Bands for one of Dekalb County's outstanding institutions, Columbia High School. For twenty three years his Marching,Concert, and Jazz bands performed at GMEA District Festivals receiving superior and excellent ratings.Mr. Coln's Bands were also known for performances that included parades,dekalb county CEO functions, and the Democratic National Convention.
Mr. Coln is currently the Director of Strings for the Southwest Dekalb Elementary Feeder Program which includes Chapel Hill Elementary, Bob Mathis Elementary, Rainbow Elementary, and Wadsworth Magnet Elementary For High Achievers. Mr. Coln has been the director of the Southwest Dekalb County Cluster for the past four years.
Mr. Coln has gone on to continue his education receiving his Masters of Education from Cambridge College ,Boston MA. Aug. 1999 and receiving his degree in Educational Administration And Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University Horregate TN. Aug. 2002.
Mr. Coln is extremely proud of five of his band students that continued their music education in college and are now band directors in The Dekalb County School System.
Mr. Coln is a member of the professional music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha, and the Georgia Music Educators Association.
