“Looking A.H.E.A.D.: Aspiring to Help Enpower Another Dream”
Every year is an exciting year at Montgomery Elementary. We are faced with new challenges, changes, a growing population and goals that we continue to strive to reach. Having spent many years in the Dekalb County School System as both a teacher and a counselor I welcome the challenges and changes. As I continue to serve in the role of School Counselor, my goal will be to help the students reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally in order for them to become responsible, successful citizens. The task is approached in a variety of ways; through classroom guidance lessons, small group participation, and individual sessions. Students are taught listening, responding, and decision-making skills to help enable them to effectively address personal or school related
concerns and to be their best.
Positive recognition and reinforcement is essential in motivating the students for their efforts. We do this thru such activities as Student of the Month, Good Character Builders, Caught Being Good, Monthly Attendance, Positive Phone Calls, Announcing Birthdays, and our Mentoring Program just to name a few.
Parents are encouraged to actively participate in SST(Student Support Team), Red Ribbon Week, Career Day, Small Group or Individual Tutoring, Mentoring, PTA, Volunteer Program, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Fund Raisers, etc. The more involved you are in a child’s education, the greater the opportunity is for that child to succeed. Community members are welcomed to join us for a visit and/or participate in our volunteer program. We look forward to seeing you at MontgomeryElementary School.
I believe that if the home and the school work together “We will build a brighter tomorrow” for our children.
