One of my students said to me, "Mrs. Colbert", I am trying to eat better. I want to look the best I can for prom." She also told me that her problem was eating sweets. Since she knows how to read the food label, I told her to calculate the number of teaspoons of sugar that she takes in as well as fat. Two weeks ago, she paged me and said she drank an orange sunkist which contains 52 grams of sugar. I told her that that was like swallowing 13 teaspoons of raw sugar (4 grams=1 teaspoon). She said she was "mortified" and vowed to
change her diet. I talked to her yesterday. She said, she lost 2 pounds by simply watching her diet. Now, she turns over all snacks to check out the sugar and fat. She said she had to give up the large honey bun for breakfast when she realized it was like eating 5 teaspoons of raw sugar and 5 teaspoons of Crisco. So how do you stay healthy?
